Fashion photo shoot in Miami Beach for designer shoe brand Meher Kakalia
During Miami Swim Week 2023, I met Meher Kakalia and fell in love with her shoes. Meher is from Pakistan but educated in the UK and lives in Berlin. She works with women in Pakistan to create the shoes for her brand and her very original designs. She works with women in Pakistan to make the shoes and so supports a lot of families in her home country.
The Meher Kakalia SS2024 collection has a distinct marine look featuring seahorses, starfish and octopus to name a few. She thought Miami would be the perfect place to shoot the collection because of the vibrant colors of the ocean, the palm trees, Ocean Drive and of course our beloved lifeguard huts.
The prep period to the shoot was several months and I helped from Miami to cast the right model (with the right feet and legs!). Bella Nardi of CGM Agency was the perfect girl!

Meher and Paris-based marketing director Marie Helene Gautier (who worked as fashion editor for French Marie Claire magazine for 10 years) arrived a day before the shoot and we met up to decide on the locations. The north part of Ocean Drive turned out to have the perfect combination of lifeguard huts on the beach and art deco hotels one block inland which borders a park with plenty of palm trees.
We started at sunrise on the beach, then moved to Ocean Drive until lunch. After this, we snuck in a few shots at the rooftop of the Kayak Hotel where the ladies were staying and ended the day at SouthPointe pier.
And once we had finished everything, shooting both photos and multiple videos, had everything packed up and walked back to my car - it started raining. Like crazy. It was like someone was spraying us with a fire extinguisher. The timing was insanely perfect except that we got just a tad drenched. At least the shoes were fine and the shoot was done :-)
